The insidious seduction of a college-bound girl by a hell-bent abuser . . .

The Disturbing History Saga

The insidious seduction of a college bound girl by a hell-bent abuser . . .

At fifteen, Mary Lou Poche is known in her small town of Houma, Louisiana for her profound beauty and intelligence. She and her best friend Gayle Gautreau believe their futures are as bright as the Southern sun. On September 6th, 1958, Mary and Gayle strike out on their first adventure to the fall festival—alone—where they meet a mysterious psychic who sends Mary reeling from the revelation of events that will affect her for years to come. In the reading, the psychic speaks of secret keys that will unlock Mary’s safety and of a difficult choice between two men. The Creole psychic woman says, “Choose de right one an’ you will know peace and success . . . choose de wrong one an’ you will suffer in bondage many a year.” Is the reading purely whimsical entertainment . . . or a frightening glimpse of things to come?

Addictive, compellingly readable page-turner
From the opening scene of the book, I was transported into the world of these characters in southern Louisiana — and with every chapter, I fell deeper and deeper into their lives. Mary has clear dreams she’s working hard to attain; her innocence is tempered by the poverty of her family and the poverty of her mother’s soul. Vinny seems to bring light into Mary’s life, but has a lot of darkness to hide. Author Kami Boley is the most naturally gifted writer I have ever encountered, with her ability to interweave plots and backstories, and transport you to these worlds through characters who fly up off the pages and into my heart (or in some cases, my worst fears). This is the best of classic storytelling for the 21st century.

I loved this book and could barely put it down until it was finished; I didn’t get much sleep for two nights. I loved the main characters and want to be friends with Mary and Gayle. Kami’s details about New Orleans made me long for a weekend getaway. I CANNOT wait until part 2; Kami, please hurry!!

Accomplished work for a debut author
I enjoyed this book. It was very well written. I love books that include real world places and details. She nailed the Cajun slang, Louisiana landscape, and 1950’s experience. The girls are very endearing and tangible as people. You are transported into their world. My only issue is that I need to know what happens next! Please finish Part 2, ASAP 🙂 This is an accomplished work for a debut author.

Kami doesn’t disappoint in The Gator Leaves Nothing Behind Part I; enthralling plot that leads you to wonder what is next!

“Topic transcends genre.”
—Archer & Jockers, The Bestseller Code

This is a truth of storytelling that my author Kami Boley from Boley Books, LLC understands to her core. Life’s themes of love and family and innocence and forgiveness and so many more, she has explored them beautifully in her new novel, The Gator Leaves Nothing Behind.

What real events inspired the Disturbing History Saga?

Aside from the strong historical aspects, my novels are a re-telling of one woman’s harrowing experience when love turns dangerous . . . a true story of domestic abuse cleverly wrapped in fiction.

Some women suffer abuse in silence fearing the judgement of others. These books are meant to give those women a voice . . . a quiet strength . . . a message of hope that will help them to find a way out. To give those that have suffered, and are suffering still, my heartfelt nod of solidarity.

Some have stated that my book covers are scary . . . and they are . . . because domestic abuse IS scary. It is scary for the adults, and even scarier for the children who witness it.

I would like to share the dedication from my newest book The Gator Leaves Nothing Behind, Part II, with those that have experienced or witnessed domestic abuse . . .

To surviving histories and building futures . . .

For all the souls and bodies damaged by domestic violence—may your scars heal and may you find equanimity and all its synonyms.

I want my books to serve as a warning and a roadmap to bypass the horrific circumstances that imprisoned Mary Poche.

How did you discover you were a writer?

This is one of those situations where the answer has been there all along. I have always been a writer and I have the countless scribbled notebooks (and sticky notes) to prove it. I didn’t allow myself to actively pursue the art until my child was older and I had the inspiration to start the first lines of my novel series. I didn’t know to what extent the words would take over my life even then. A few years ago, I reached out to Nicole Eva Fraser, an established author, to buy my ideas so the words would leave me alone. She dubbed me a writer and convinced me that I could finish telling my story. I began to repeat the phrase “I’m a writer” over and over again as a declaration, a mantra, and a battle cry.

What was a pivotal book you read as a teenager?

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton sparked something in me and so did My Sweet Audrina by V.C. Andrews, but it was The Stand by Stephen King that started my insatiable appetite for epic stories.

Do you hide secrets in your books that only a few people will find?

Definitely! On almost every page I am winking at myself and the reader by leaving all these clues and facts about real-life history.
