If you read my post about Kiteboarding, then you already know that I recently spent time in St. Croix. If you have never been to this particular U.S. Virgin Island, you need to put this one on your bucket list.
The house I stayed in was adorned with the name William’s Wish, and I can tell you that this 1,600-square foot slice of St. Croix heaven can fulfill many vacationers wish. It resides on a lovely hill less than thirty minutes from the STX airport in Christiansted. You can rent a car simply by hopping a ride on a courtesy shuttle to Olympic Car rental for a nice selection of vehicles to choose from. The service we received was friendly and patient, Ricky even entertained us with relevant island information while someone in our group searched for a missing bag.
William’s Wish is a scenic breezy mile from downtown Christiansted where you can find many shops, and fun places to get yourself an attitude adjusting cocktail or a gourmet meal.
I become quite the foodie when I’m on vacation. I seek out restaurants that the locals enjoy, ready to explore new or exotic things on the menus. Here are a few venues in dining that I discovered in St. Croix.
One of the nearby open air restaurants with a serene harbor view has an unusually eclectic menu. It was hard to pick just one dish at the Oceanview Cafe so we gravitated to the daily specials board. Our group ordered and shared entrees of Jerk chicken, fish, and chips made with fresh Mahi, barbecued spare ribs, and an amply dressed guacamole burger, all of which came with various side dishes (don’t pass up the plantains). There were other choices—an array of seafood, breakfast, and Italian meals that I intend to make return trips to try.
Another nearby place to visit is Sharky’s bar and grill. I highly recommend you visit Sharky’s on Tuesday for all day $2 tacos and $2.50 margaritas. I’m not much of a drinker, but I did imbibe a single margarita along with my water on this trip, and it was yummy.
To further our island adventure, my daughter and I decided to forego the taxi and hitched rides back from our kiteboarding lessons (approximately a fifteen-minute drive east of the house). We met many neighborly residents of St. Croix on my week-long visit, so communal, the experience helped to restore my faith in humanity.
It is Wednesday, and I am sitting poolside listening to a soothing waterfall as I write this post looking out at the gorgeous late morning view of the sleepy hills and water that surrounds William’s Wish.
I came to St. Croix to have a peaceful environment to write and play in, my escape from the hustle bustle of the daily grind. William’s Wish gave me plenty of amenities in a centralized location with breathtaking views of the water kissing the sky and lush serene landscapes to keep me relaxed and entertained; all my wishes granted.
