Greetings from Kami with Boley Books

Do you get the cold weather woes? As a NAUI trained Scuba diver, I replace those winter blues with plans to immerse myself in the blue waters of the Caribbean. When I am not working, reading, or writing, I am searching for real-world adventure. Let’s get ready to explore the beauty of the deep!

It’s so easy to get started . . . here’s how.

Find a dive shop near you
There are two main organizations that are recognized around the globe for overseeing and providing solid scuba training courses… NAUI (National Association of Underwater Instructors) and PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors)

I have heard many arguments over the years about which of these organizations is the better choice . . . they will both get you under the water with a tank on your back and a smile on your face. At the end of the day, the argument appears to be a waste of time, energy, and bottom time. Whichever organization your local dive shop recommends for you should be fine. It’s good to build a relationship with a local dive shop for many reasons. This new family will be your information hub when it comes to your initial open water certification training, purchasing any new or used equipment, gaining advanced certifications, planning an adventure, finding dive buddies, and having your equipment properly serviced between trips. Sign up and let’s get you prepared for a love that will last a lifetime! ?

Knowledge development
The Theory of Scuba coursework (textbook and videos) will present you with the basic knowledge to become a skilled open water diver. My daughter easily aced the tests at the age of twelve, so don’t be intimidated by the classroom. You will cover all you need to know like: proper use and care of necessary gear, safety procedures and precautions, also how diving can affect the body.

e-learning is a newer option that was not available when I was training, but I can see the need for this if there is no availability within your area or convenience. During the Practical Training, you will be in the pool discovering how to properly maneuver in the water with your equipment, a whole new experience of this three-dimensional environment. Practicing underwater, you will become familiar with clearing and equalizing your ears, along with other techniques and skills you will need for pleasurable diving.

Open Water
After passing the theory classes and practical training you will need to test your new skills in a real-world setting. This last part can be completed with an instructor from your local dive shop or it can be officiated by a certified instructor at your vacation destination. I completed my open water training in Cozumel. ?
