Greetings from Boley Books

In my recent post on MKULTRA, I introduced you to the secret CIA project that carried out many human experiments in search of mind control chemicals and technology that spanned several decades.

It was during these many years of research and experimentation that LSD was discovered and synthesized in a government-funded lab. LSD, the drug known for serious mind-altering effects was created and eventually released by a project funded with your tax dollars. This drug became popular on the street alongside other substances used in CIA experiments such as cannabis and heroin. In the sixties, these drugs became widely available on college campuses, unexpectedly spawning and feeding a counterculture hippie movement across America.

This past weekend, to my surprise and awe, I turned on Netflix to find a series titled Wormwood. This well-made series features a blend of reenacted sequences, original documentary clips, Senate hearing statements, and candid interviews with the family members of Doctor Frank Olson. Olson was a scientist with high-level security clearance who had a sudden crisis of conscience. After an attempt to quit, he became an unwitting casualty of the MKUltra experiments he was heavily involved in at Fort Detrick. Wormwood explores the mysteries surrounding the scientist and the extensive twenty-year cover-up after he plummeted from a New York hotel window in 1953. If you are at all interested in shining a light into the deep, dark closet of the CIA, don’t miss Wormwood on Netflix!
