What subjects would you love to study?

Higher education courses look as enticing to me as Pokemon did to kids of the 90’s . . . gotta catch ’em all!

I did not have the pleasure nor the opportunity to attend college and for many years I felt denied that treasure trove of knowledge. The fact that I did not have access to higher education did not squelch my hunger for it. You can imagine how excited I was to come across my first catalog of The Great Courses. I am by no means a shopaholic and normally have no signs of addictive behaviors, but somehow turning pages and pages of science, economics, engineering, philosophy, literature, and so much more, compelled me to gladly order course after course.

I arrived at point in my life where I needed to allow myself to explore a passion for writing that has burned inside of me for many years. I felt that in order for a reader to take me seriously, it was time for me to make an elevated effort to fortify my talents . . . time to make an investment.

I started my explorations of The Great Courses with professor Brooks Landon from the University of Iowa who taught me to examine the writer’s craft in Building Great Sentences. I learned storytelling tips and techniques in Writing Great Fiction with professor James Hynes. To help me capture character motivations I purchased Understanding the Mysteries of Human Behavior with Professor Mark Leary. Not all of what I intend to write will be fiction, so I am now listening to Professor Tilar J. Mazzeo explain the process of Writing Creative Nonfiction. I thought with these gems I had my writing bases covered and then I found another important topic . . . How to Publish Your Book taught by industry expert Jane Friedman, whom I am plenty fond of and already following online.

With my new arsenal of lessons taught by top-notch professionals, I plan to pursue my dreams of spinning tales, building worlds, and telling truths.
